It is clonally propagated, highly heterozygous, autotetraploid, and suffers acute inbreeding depression. Here we use a homozygous doubled-monoploid potato clone to sequence and assemble 86% of the 844-megabase genome. We predict 39,031 protein-coding genes and present evidence for at least two genome duplication events indicative of a palaeopolyploid origin. -
PublicaciónA numerical algorithm for finding solutions of a generalized Nash equilibrium problem(Springer Nature, 2012)
;Matioli L.C. ;Sosa W.Yuan J.A family of nonempty closed convex sets is built by using the data of the Generalized Nash equilibrium problem (GNEP). The sets are selected iteratively such that the intersection of the selected sets contains solutions of the GNEP. The algorithm introduced by Iusem-Sosa (Optimization 52:301–316, 2003) is adapted to obtain solutions of the GNEP. Finally some numerical experiments are given to illustrate the numerical behavior of the algorithm. -
PublicaciónMorphological Characterization of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in a MODS Culture for an Automatic Diagnostics through Pattern Recognition(PLOS, 2013)
;Alva, A ;Aquino, F ;Gilman, RH ;Olivares, C ;Requena, D ;Gutierrez, AH ;Caviedes, L ;Coronel, J ;Larson, S ;Sheen, P ;Moore, DAJZimic, MTuberculosis control efforts are hampered by a mismatch in diagnostic technology: modern optimal diagnostic tests are least available in poor areas where they are needed most. Lack of adequate early diagnostics and MDR detection is a critical problem in control efforts. The Microscopic Observation Drug Susceptibility (MODS) assay uses visual recognition of cording patterns from Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) to diagnose tuberculosis infection and drug susceptibility directly from a sputum sample in 7–10 days with a low cost. An important limitation that laboratories in the developing world face in MODS implementation is the presence of permanent technical staff with expertise in reading MODS. -

;Tuya, XL ;Escalante-Kanashiro, R ;Tinco, C ;Pons, MJ ;Petrozzi, V ;Ruiz, Jdel Valle, JA 22-day-old male was admitted with a 2-day history of irritability, dyspnea, jaundice, fever, and gastroin testinal bleeding. A thin blood smear was performed, which showed the presence of intraerythrocyte bacteria identified as Bartonella bacilliformis, and subsequently, the child was diagnosed with Carrion’s disease. The diagnosis was confirmed by specific polymerase chain reaction. The child was born in a non-endemic B. bacilliformis area and had not traveled to such an area before hospitalization. However, the mother was from an endemic B. bacilliformis area, and posterior physical examination showed the presence of a wart compatible with B. bacilliformis in semi-immune subjects. These data support vertical transmission of B. bacilliformis. -

PublicaciónVacancy ordered γ-Fe 2 O 3 nanoparticles functionalized with nanohydroxyapatite: XRD, FTIR, TEM, XPS and Mössbauer studies(Elsevier, 2016)
;Ramos Guivar J.A. ;Sanches E.A. ;Bruns F. ;Sadrollahi E. ;Morales M.A. ;López E.O.Litterst F.J.Vacancy ordered maghemite (γ-Fe2O3) nanoparticles functionalized with nanohydroxyapatite (HAp – Ca10(PO4) 6(OH)2) have been successfully synthesized using an inexpensive co-precipitation chemical route. Evidence for the presence of vacancy order in maghemite was shown by the superstructure lines observed in X-ray diffraction. The adsorption of carboxyl groups of citric acid (C6H8O7) onto γ-Fe2O3 nanoparticles was investigated by FTIR, XPS and Mössbauer spectroscopy. From XPS surface analysis, two binding energies related to oxygen were attributed to bindings between C6H8O7/γ- Fe2O3 and C6H8O7/HAp from an interfacial reaction promoted by strongly adsorbed H2O molecules at the surface of these nanomaterials. -

PublicaciónThe Urbach focus and optical properties of amorphous hydrogenated SiC thin films(IOP Publishing, 2016)
;Guerra, JA ;Angulo, JR ;Gomez, S ;Llamoza, J ;Montanez, LM ;Tejada, A ;Tofflinger, JA ;Winnacker, AWeingartner, RWe report on the optical bandgap engineering of sputtered hydrogenated amorphous silicon carbide (a-SiC:H) thin films under different hydrogen dilution conditions during the deposition process and after post-deposition annealing treatments. The Tauc-gap and Urbach energy are calculated from ultraviolet-visible optical transmittance measurements. Additionally, the effect of the thermal annealing temperature on the hydrogen out-diffusion is assessed through infra-red absorption spectroscopy. A new model for the optical absorption of amorphous semiconductors is presented and employed to determine the bandgap as well as the Urbach energy from a single fit of the absorption coefficient. This model allowed the discrimination of the Urbach tail from the Tauc region without any external bias. Finally, the effect of the hydrogen dilution on the band-edge and the Urbach focus is discussed. -

PublicaciónSimple light-emitting electrochemical cell using reduced graphene oxide and a ruthenium (II) complex(Optica Publishing Group, 2017)
;Tito, HAR ;Zimmermann, J ;Jurgensen, N ;Sosa, GHCaceda, MEQWe report the use of conducting substrates from reduced graphene oxide (rGO) applied in light-emitting electrochemical cells (LECs) in which we used an electroluminescent polymer as a light-emitting layer. The emitting layer was composed of an organic metal complex of tris(2, 2′-bipyridine) ruthenium (II) linked to the sodium tetrafluoroborate anion ([Ru(bpy)3]+2)(BF4)−1. The luminance generated from the electroluminescent device was 6.89 Cd/m2 when applying a voltage of 13.48 V and a current of 10.19 mA. The luminance of this device was kept on almost constant for 36.84 min. The prolonged lifetime of the electrochemical device was achieved by depositing an rGO thin layer with a 161.3 nm thickness inside the LEC structure. -

PublicaciónProduction and characterization of a highly pure RNA polymerase holoenzyme from Mycobacterium tuberculosis(Elsevier B.V., 2017)
;Herrera-Asmat O. ;Lubkowska L. ;Kashlev M. ;Bustamante C.J. ;Guerra D.G.Kireeva M.L.Recent publications have shown that active RNA polymerase (RNAP) from Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MtbRNAP) can be produced by expressing all four subunits in a single recombinant Escherichia coli strain [1–3]. By reducing the number of plasmids and changing the codon usage of the Mtb genes in the co-expression system published by Banerjee et al. [1], we present a simplified, detailed and reproducible protocol for the purification of recombinant MtbRNAP containing the ω subunit. Moreover, we describe the formation of ternary elongation complexes (TECs) with a short fluorescence-labeled RNA primer and DNA oligonucleotides, suitable for transcription elongation studies. -
PublicaciónDetermination of the complex refractive index and optical bandgap of CH3NH3PbI3 thin films(AIP Publishing, 2017)
;Guerra, J. A. ;Tejada, A. ;Korte, L. ;Kegelmann, L. ;Tofflinger, J. A. ;Albrecht, S. ;Rech, B.Weingartner, R.We report the complex refractive index of methylammonium lead iodide (CH3NH3PbI3) perovskite thin films obtained by means of variable angle spectroscopic ellipsometry and transmittance/reflectance spectrophotometry in the wavelength range of 190 nm to 2500 nm. The film thickness and roughness layer thickness are determined by minimizing a global unbiased estimator in the region where the spectrophotometry and ellipsometry spectra overlap. We then determine the optical bandgap and Urbach energy from the absorption coefficient, by means of a fundamental absorption model based on band fluctuations in direct semiconductors. This model merges both the Urbach tail and the absorption edge regions in a single equation. In this way, we increase the fitting region and extend the conventional (αℏω)2-plot method to obtain accurate bandgap values. © 2017 Author(s). -
PublicaciónOptical characterization and bandgap engineering of flat and wrinkle-textured FA(0.83)Cs(0.17)Pb(l(1-x)Brx)(3) perovskite thin films(AIP Publishing LLC., 2018)
;Tejada, A ;Braunger, S ;Korte, L ;Albrecht, S ;Rech, BGuerra, JAThe complex refractive indices of formamidinium cesium lead mixed-halide [FA0.83Cs0.17Pb(I1– xBrx)3] perovskite thin films of compositions ranging from x = 0 to 0.4, with both flat and wrinkle-textured surface topographies, are reported. The films are characterized using a combination of variable angle spectroscopic ellipsometry and spectral transmittance in the wavelength range of 190 nm to 850 nm. Optical constants, film thicknesses and roughness layers are obtained point-by-point by minimizing a global error function, without using optical dispersion models, and including topographical information supplied by a laser confocal microscope.
