The objective of this research is to determine if there is a relationship between personality styles and self-injury. The sample was of 997 students between 13 and 18 years of age (𝑥̅=15.24 years), who studied between third and fifth year of high school in state and private schools in the city of Arequipa. The research design was non-experimental transversal, descriptive - correlational. For the evaluation we used the Personality Inventory for Adolescents of Millon (MAPI), which has validity and reliability through Alpha de Cronbrach of 0.77 and the SubScale of Self-harm and Self-Loathing Thoughts that has a reliability by the Tes- retest of .65 and that in turn was validated by expert judges for our environment, in addition sociodemographic variables were analyzed. The results found indicate that there is a prevalence of 35% in relation to self-injurious thoughts, while 28% of students have perpetrated self-injury. The most frequent method is through cuts, being women typically the ones who tend to practice them. The main triggers are family problems and the influence of mood. We conclude that there is a relationship between sensitive, inhibited, violent personality styles and self-injury.
